Evaluating application compatibility before upgrading to Windows 10

A key task before upgrading to Windows 10 is to understand the compatibility of your existing desktop application. To this end, Microsoft recently announced general availability for their cloud based Upgrade Readiness service.

Basically, you configure your computers to send information to Microsoft. Microsoft then provides a dashboard identifying potential issues along with a workflow that you can use to manage resolution of those issues.

A simple test below shows a Windows 7 machine with an unsupported VPN application being correctly identified as removed during upgrade.

You can then update the identified issues as you make decisions or take actions.

The service is free, and post upgrade to Windows 10 it also provides assistance on managing the Windows 10 lifecycle.
